April 2006 Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order 1935. Pledge and moment of silence.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting. Motion to accept as posted. Duly seconded and
approved. Reminder - minutes of all meeting will be posted on our website (http://www.pes1.com/cpoa/).
Treasurers Report: Savings balance $2,156.24. Checking balance $1,570.39. 2
outstanding checks for $168.62 and $303.99 leaving actual balance of $1,098.70. This
evening received $40 dues, $560 from Leadership Miami Project, $520.50 for Global
Gathering concession work in Miami, and $3,027.48 from Americrown for November 2005 races.
New balance $5,247.68.
Committees
- Race Chief ODell will take over. Chief Short will stay active until he
takes over. Chief Short reported on the March 24th race. We made about $3,000
and should receive the check soon.
- Scholarship
Chief Powell sent proposed wording to be added to our bylaws for
scholarship recipients. Proposes to include sones, daughters, step sons and step
daughters, spouses and spouses of married children, and grandchildren. Also wants to add
wording that this is towards a first undergraduate degree (associate or bachelors). Tabled
until next meeting.
- Philanthropy

- Ship Liaison
There will be a strike group (USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN 69,
USS Klakring FFG 42 and an unidentified sub) arriving April 24th. Fleet Week is
the 1st week in May. Expected ships are the USS Oscar Austin DDG 79, USS Boone
FFG 28, USS Shreveport LDP 12, USS San Antonio LPD 17, unidentified sub, USCGC Elm WLB
204, HMCS Preserver ADR 510 (Canadian oiler/replenishment ship) HMCS Halifax FFH 330 (
Canadian frigate).
- Navy League
The MDM group contacted us for information about our
activities for Fleet Week. We will be invited to the official ship greeting and are being
included on their website list of activities for the CPOA reception. The Navy League has a
website at www.bcnavyleague.org. The speaker at
the May 11th dinner meeting will be LCDR Carlos Mercado, USCG MSST.

Question as to whether we need this status since we are
incorporated and have EIN number. Secretary will email CPA.
- Initiation

New Business
- Chief Lesser having trouble securing venue for annual holiday dinner. Membership needs
to make suggestions.
- Motion to host reception for Eisenhower strike group arriving April 24th.
Reception will be at Café Bluefish April 26th. Motion to include $500 with
plaques or books for the 3 ships. Duly seconded and passed.
- Motion to fund CPO reception during Fleet Week not to exceed $1,500. Approximately $400
for plaques. Secretary will send names to Chief Short. Chief Neary will donate books to be
presented at official ships greeting during VIP reception at Seminole Hard Rock.
- Discussion about need for budget, smaller budget for receptions, and increasing yearly
dues. Treasurer will work with budget committee.
Good of the Order
- May 4th meeting at VFW will need to be very short or cancelled. They have an
opportunity to book the hall and make about $2,000 toward some needed equipment. Will
email president to make this decision.
