CHIEF PETTY OFFICERS ASSOCIATION PURPOSE:

To establish within the Naval community of Miami, Fla., a fraternal organization of senior enlisted personnel for the purpose of:

A. Improving the welfare,morale and working relationships of all personal assigned to the Naval community of Miami, Florida, and to improve the functioning of the various divisions by providing all possible assistance and cooperation which can be rendered to the command in carrying out its assigned mission.
B. Passing of useful information to all members.
C. Solving any inter-service, inter-departmental problems on the E-7 through E-9 levels.
D. Providing for the various social activities of the association.

Minutes from the June 1, 2000 meeting.

The meeting was held at the VFW Hall and was called to order by the acting President, Senior Chief Starr at 1940.

The pledge of Allegiance was performed and a moment of silence was observed for our fallen shipmates.

We did not have May's minutes so they were not read.

Guidelines for the scholarship were handed out at the meeting and is now posted on the Web Site. Nomination was made for Chief LaCoursier to be Chairman of the fund, Second and Passed.

We collected $ 1000.00 for the Association for working the May 6,7,8 Mike Short believes the Association collected $1000.00 .   Thanks to all who were able to participate.

Master Chief LaCoursier brought up the possibility of creating a second $1,000.00 Scholarship for E6 and below at the Reserve Center. This will be discussed in future meeting.

Motion made by MMCM (SS) Peschke to use the Budget proposal as a working copy. Second and Passed.  Many thanks to the Budget committee for preparing the proposal.

Charity Committee:

HMC Camagong requested the association donate $400.00 to sponsor the Health Fair on September 10, 2000 at the Reserve Center.  Motion was made for $200.00 by HMC Powell, Second by MMCM(SS) Peschke and Passed.

Al Starr requested the CPOA donate two flags for the Sea Cadet. One Navy and one US with stands and flag poles.  Ken Larson received a quote for $165.00 and $185.00 respectively.  Ken Larson made a motion to set a budget of $350.00 for the flags. Second and Passed.

We received letters of thanks from the Armed Forces Service Center Miami.

As a result of May's efforts the Concessionaires are going to move the pioneers out of the Hamburg booth and put us in it for the November Race. This is our major fundraiser for the year and we will need at least 20 people per day. So Please Help Out

Miss Wheelchair Event
Al Starr is in need of 20 CPO's to volunteer as escorts for the National Miss Wheelchair Pageant being held at the Bahia Mar from Thursday August 10,to Saturday August 12, 2000.  Uniform is Summer Whites.

The Florida Miss Wheelchair event will be in October on the 8th to the 12th at the Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Uniform is Summer Whites.

I am a volunteer aboard the USS Salem CA-139 at the Quincy Mass.) shipyard. I am helping a former Boatswain's mate and his two sons in restoring one of the 5"/38 twin mounts. We are looking for any
information we can get on the interior of the mount. We would like to label the major pieces of the mount and show a layout of the crew positions during
full operation.
