February 7 May 2 August 1 November 7
March 7 June 6 September 5 December 5
Committee Reports:
Race: Turned in $6,567.47 from last race after paying out about $900 in expenses. Next race March 1-3 is Grand Prix. Need 8 on Friday, at least 20 on Saturday and Sunday. Second race in 2002 will be Truck race in April (2nd weekend). Last race in November . Discussion. Rousing Hymn to all who worked the last race.
Scholarship: Question from Balcomb regarding IRAs and college funds. Discussion. Will investigate further and give details to Stan.
Philanthropy: Norm had letter to CPOA forwarded from Conaster from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward. It requested pledge of any amount. Discussion. Many seem to feel our charitable contributions should go to military related areas. Does this mean only charities connected to the military or does it include any charities supported by our members? Much discussion. 2 other issues brought up at this time: the last holiday gift certificates were not purchased because no recipients were suggested by the Reserve Center and there is a Coast Guard Petty Officer whose daughter has some very serious medical problems. Motion finally made to make a one-time $100 donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward. 6 ayes, 8 nays. Motion did not pass. Further questions on what we spend annually for charities. About 42% of last years budget for charity. Suggestion that last years expenditures be looked at on a summary sheet.
