October 3, 2002

Meeting called to order 1938.

Opening ceremonies: Pledge, Moment of Silence.

New attendees: Boot CEC Mike Fox and ISC Paul Davis. Hymn to both.

Minutes from Previous Meeting: Motion to take Donny Covington off the shit list since he was a guest of Lippincott. Passed. Motion to accept Minutes as amended. Passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Read flyer going out about next meeting which will include election of new officers and holiday dinner. Senior Chief Roy kicked over Master Chief Robertson’s "tea". $8,800.79 balance. Still 36% under budget because we haven’t been servicing ships. Some concern was raised about the term "servicing". $1,000 in budget for these receptions. 2 outstanding checks: $44.93 and $119.08. Remaining expenditures should run a little under $3,600. Al Starr brought up that some of the plaques not paid for from Fleet Week. Stan requested details. Discussion about who might have ordered it. Mike Short will check on it. Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report. Passed.

Committee Reports

bulletRace Committee:
bulletMiami Gran Prix. Need minimum of 10 people to work this race each day. Friday will be pandemonium. Need to come in South end of the race. May have to ride the people mover in. Robbie suggested taking the Tri-Rail in. Association will pay for Tri-Rail. Dress code: beige slacks or shorts and white polo shirt. Meeting time 7:30 a.m. at the main entrance. Motion to provide food for workers. Passed.
bulletHomestead Nascar. November 14th – 17th. This is our biggest race of the year. Need serious commitments for this. Need to email Palfrey with names. Lodging costs will be picked up by the association. Discussion about showing up if you make the commitment.
bulletPhilanthropy: Upcoming holidays possible donations for Reserve center. Request from outside the association, about $150 to buy some turkeys for needy families. Suggested gift certificates for some of the younger families. Al suggested remembering the sailors at the Coast Guard stations. Robbie asked if it is in the realm of doing something with a group for the homeless. Discussion. Mike brought up the veterans’ home and Tedlow the USO. Stan reminded that we already have $400 budgeted without making another motion. Need names by next month. bulletShip Liaison: Bulkeley arrives tomorrow. Chiefs’ reception Monday at Café Bluefish. Following Monday Leyte Gulf will be here and Chief’s reception Monday. Navy League will host a reception at Friday at Freddie’s Anchor Bar. Following at Uncle Funny’s for Leyte Gulf. Robbie brought up the uniform for the receptions and asked if we could discuss. Discussion. bulletInitiation: Over and selectees survived admirably. Only major problem was the Friday night shower. Discussed some of the comments. Mike thanked Al Starr for the ceremony. Hymn. Davis thanked everyone for what was done for the selectees. Norm took some notes about the props. Felt some participation lacking. Al asked if there was a problem with the Pinning Ceremony? Davis felt very positive about it. Everyone seemed to feel it went very well. bulletHoliday dinner. Tickets are on sale. Retirement ceremony will be included in the dinner.

bulletTreasurer – Ron Roy last month. No nominations made this month.
bulletSecretary – Chuck Robertson last month. Gary Sturm nominated.
bulletVice President – Norm Powell and Rick Tedlow last month. Stan nominated but declined.
bulletPresident – Tim Neary last month. Jerry Lippincott nominated. Al Starr nominated. Mike Bagley nominated.
bulletFinal round of nominations will be next month and election. Mike Bagley asked if this appropriate and motion to hold election in November if it doesn’t violate the bylaws. Passed.

New Business

bulletCoin from Seal Museum shown by Lippincott. Would like to do coins for our organization. Discussion about coins. Mike also spoke about hatpins. Motion to assign Short and Lippincott to look into pins and coins. Passed.

Motion to purchase plaque for Leyte Gulf. No motion needed so withdrawn.

CPOA fishing trip. Picnic after. January sounds good.

bulletAl wants to make a motion to increase budget to $600 for holiday to include reserve center, station Miami beach, fort Lauderdale, USC Gannett. Passed.

Respects to Ron Kinsella on the loss of his wife. Association received thank-you note from Ron.

Stan read bylaws to point out some recommended changes. This is informational only. Some discussion that instead of e-7 should be an initiated chief.

Short said we need to order some more shirts and hats. We are out of hats. This is unfunded since we make the money back on this.

Freedom awards notice read. Invitation to anyone. Onboard the Grand Princess in Port Everglades, Sunday, October 27th, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., contribution $50 per person. Honorees Vice Admiral J.
