January 2, 2003 CPOA Meeting

Meeting called to order 1930. Opening ceremonies, Pledge, Moment of silence.

Passing of the gavel from the Nebraska boy. Motion to recognize Jerry for his outstanding efforts. Passed. Mike Short will order plaque.

Wiz apologized for not having shown up and explained his move from his home of 36 years to a small condo.

Minutes from the last meeting. Rick said he actually got 2 votes. Motion to waive the reading. Passed.

Treasurer’s Report. Ron will be out of the country for the next several months. Membership would like to keep Stan. Dinner cost $820. Income $1000. Balance $4567.35. With new deposits $5017.35. Expenditures $1213.06. Net checking $3804.29. $2060.60 in savings. $5864.89 total in both accounts. We are about $2700 ahead of last year. Dues will be collected now. Remember there is a discount to paying early. ID cards will be issued based on membership as of February meeting.

Committee Reports:

bulletRace – November race check mailed. Should be roughly $6,300. Next race in March. Only think we should take only 2 tents. Gayle will line up the people. Need 20 people. Discussion about taking 3 tents. Norm will contact the base about orders for staying at Homestead. Discussion. Motion to take only 2 tents. Passed. Mike is going to contact the Miami Grand Prix about our check which should be about $1500. Jerry calculated total sales for the 3-day race $15,818.75. His summary is attached.
bulletScholarship – deadline June 30. Need input by May 1. Question from David. We need to mail him the information.
bulletPhilanthropy – Made donations to Coast Guard station Fort Lauderdale and Miami and Gannett for holiday dinner. Very appreciative. Make-a-wish foundation very appreciative for their donation. Letter received from Keith Whitbeck, Armed Forces Service Center at MIA, thanking us for our donation of $500 (attached).

Old Business

bulletHoliday dinner – Gayle has pictures. Hymn to Mike and Stan for organizing this party. Everyone who attended agreed it was very well done. Stan will make arrangements for next year. Jerry read a list of some of our projects and accomplishments for the past year which we hope to publish in the next newsletter.
bulletChallenge Coin report – Motion to order another 100. Passed. Stan will order when we have received the money from Homestead.
bulletHat Pin – Mike has not ordered yet. Discussion to order the .75 inch. Agreed.
