Minutes from Previous Meeting: Motion to accept as mailed. Duly seconded and passed.

Treasurer’s Report/Membership Report. Treasurer unavailable. Wannabe secretary read from bank statement: $2,085.11 in savings, $11,332.22 in checking, $400 to be deposited, total funds $13,817.33.

Committee Reports

bulletRace: Chief Short thanked all those who worked. Brief diatribe about the need to honor our commitments. November races coming up (13-16). This is a major race and we need volunteers. Minimum needed: 10 Thursday, 20 Friday, 35 Saturday and Sunday. Discussion about how to involve new chiefs and all members.
bulletScholarship: 2003 recipient is Vanessa Lippincott.
bulletPhilanthropy: Chief Powell will talk to Senior Chief Schwartz for Thanksgiving needs at reserve center. Membership decision to give $50 gift certificates, 3 to reserve center, 2 to USCG Station Fort Lauderdale, and 1 to USCG Cutter Gannet. Suggestion to consider $250 gift for holidays to Armed Forces Service Center.
bulletShip Liaison: USS Reagan did not show up due to Hurricane Isabel. Expected here November 10. USS O’Bannon (DD987) expected October 10-14). Motion to spend up to $200 to host reception for O’Bannon chiefs at the Field Irish Pub and Restaurant on Sunday, October 12. Duly seconded and passed. Chief Starr will coordinate with Navy League and O’Bannon.
bulletCPO Initiation: Chief Robertson pontificated on good/bad of initiation. Suggested continue having it at Reserve Center. Also suggested initiation committee work year round to build a more organized initiation "shell". Discussion. Had 100 guests at ceremony and 35 CPOs reviewing. Cost to association about $100.

bulletReminder from Chief Lippincott to purchase tickets for Holiday party.
bulletChief Powell will gather details on 5K walk/run Tribute to Military.

New Business

bulletChief Short brought up status of association and need for tax exempt ID. Would like to pursue 501-3c status. Chief Neary appointed Chief Short, Chief Lesser, and Chief Palfrey to committee to investigate further.
bulletFirst call for nomination of 2004 officers: Please note that second call for nominees and elections will be held at November meeting.
