April 1, 2004

Meeting called to order 1936. Pledge and moment of silence for our fallen shipmates.

Announcements: Chief Ed Peters passed away. Chief Doxie’s wife is ill.

Minutes: Jerry Lippincott was present at last month’s meeting. Motion to accept minutes as corrected. Duly seconded and passed.

Treasurer’s report: Read by Chief Lesser. Savings balance $2,098.27. Checking balance $12,435.21. Total balance $14,534.48.

Committee reports

bulletRace: Chief Short reported still haven’t been paid for 2 races, the September Miami Grand Prix and the February race at Homestead. Might be a race in September at Homestead. Next big race in November.
bulletScholarship: Need candidates for upcoming year.
bulletPhilanthropy: Chief Tedlow circulating birthday and anniversary list. Chief LaCoursiere’s birthday is this month. Chief Conatser has birthday and anniversary. Condolences to Chief Cohen and his family for the loss of his mother-in-law. Condolences to Chief Tomako. Received thank-you note from the Armed Forces Service Center.
bulletShip liaison: The USS Pickney, the newest DDG arrived March 24th. Senior Chief Starr greeted the ship and our condolences on the loss of their sailors was very much appreciated. Fleet week will be the last week in April. The ships scheduled to arrive are the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), USS Mitscher (DDG-57), USS Philippine Sea (CG-58), USS Simpson (FFG-56), USS Stephen W. Groves (FFG-29), USS Trenton (LPD-14), USS Miami (SSN-755), USCG TBA, probably medium endurance cutter. Our CPOA reception will be Tuesday, April 27th, 1900-2100. It will be a block party hosted by 5 restaurants: The Parrot, Café Bluefish, McSorley’s, Primanti Bros., and Bikini Bob’s. Details are still be worked out. Uniform of the day will be CPOA shirt and tan slax. Senior Chief Starr is investigating tours for us and will try for Wednesday.

bullet501(3)(c). Incorporation papers are complete and have been submitted to the State.
bulletHats and shirts are being done now. Coins have been ordered.
bulletMaurice Anderson was sent a letter. We a currently planning a ceremony for him as well as Chief Sturm and Chief Petroske in December.

New Business

bulletChief Starr would like to invite local chiefs to our CPOA party for Fleet Week. No objections from members present.
bulletChief Short made a motion to increase our quarterly donations to the Armed Forces Center to $250. Duly seconded and passed.
bulletChief Neary noted that the Coast Guard CPOA really needs to raise funds. Suggestion to be reviewed by Race Committee. Discussion. Consensus that we need to be sensitive to other Chief Petty Officer Associations.
bulletChief Herrera asked if there is official CPOA stationery. Gayle will research.
bulletChief Powell suggested we create a welcome aboard package for new members.
bulletChief Short brought up National Guard Warrant Officer who worked the Races. Discussion about associate membership.
