Chief Petty Officers Association of Miami
Meeting called to order 1935. Pledge and moment of silence.
Passing of the gavel to new president. Hymn to Chief Neary. Chief Powell spoke about goals and need to support each other. Thanks to Chief Neary for great job. Another Hymn.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting: Motion to accept as sent. Duly seconded and approved.
Treasurers Report/ Membership Report. Checking $8,828.36. Savings $2,091.68. Petty cash $130. Total assets $11,050.04. Deposits received tonight $446. Have 33 coins. Need to buy more shirts and hats.
Committee Reports
Race Chief Short said we havent received checks from last 2 races yes. We are not an authorized charity so this must be resolved. Discussion about the 501(c)(3) status. Chief Neary will research this (see New Business). Toyota Race February 27, 28, 29 at Homestead. Mike Shorts contact information 305-542-4461 for volunteers. | |
Philanthropy Nice letter from Vanessa Lippincott. Chief Powell has not delivered 4th quarter donation to Armed Forces Service Center. Chief Correia requested consideration of Scouts and this will be brought to the Association. | |
Ship Liaison USS Leyte Gulf and USS Donald Cook recently visited. Chief Starr reported reception for Leyte Gulf huge success. Chief Easter noted USS Carney DDG-64 will be arriving January 26 escorting QEII. USS Kennedy will be here the first week in March. Fleet Week is last week in April. | |
CPO Initiation Chief Robertson noted need to begin early. Chief Powell named him committee chair. Recommend to hold initiation at Reserve Center as we did last year. | |
Finance Chief Powell requested updated budget. |
Old Business
Holiday dinner cost $600. We made $120. Need to have someone look for new location for 2004. | |
Chief Short will research hat pins. |
New Business
Motion for Chief Neary to move forward on obtaining 501(c)(3) status for association. Initial umbrella of $1,000. Will report back to group any additional costs and what is involved at next meeting. Duly seconded and passed. | |
Motion for Reception for USS Carney when they are in port and plaque. Limit $350. Location TBD. Duly seconded and passed. | |
Reminder that dues for membership are due. Membership wants to continue membership cards. | |
Chief Roy will maintain the website. | |
Calendar reviewed for meeting dates and accepted. Noted that dates for Initiation training are not yet identified. | |
Fleet week news. Chief Easter had orders for ADSW for 60 days. Need security watches, personnel, master at arms, etc. Need to talk to Reservists and encourage them to contact Chief Easter if interested. For retired personnel, there will be other volunteer opportunities. | |
CPOA Book Grant (see attached draft from Chief Fagenbaum). Proposal is $300 limit per quarter, $1,200 maximum per year. Suggest using evals to narrow the field. Motion to be involved in this as a pilot for one year and review next year. Duly seconded and passed. | |
Motion to reward those who work the races at Homestead or Miami a minimum of 3 days with a ticket to the Holiday dinner. Question as to whether this should be in the Bylaws. Duly seconded and passed. |
