Meeting called to order 1930. Pledge and moment of silence. Extended
moment of silence for 2 seebees killed in action.

CPO Initiation
- Our of order due to Chief Kuttner needing to leave early. Introduction of DKC Joseph
Kuttner, West Palm Beach Command Chief.
- 1 reserve selectee (NA1 Natalinskisp); may have 3 bodies. Master Chief
Robertson spoke to CO of Reserve center who is aggreable to having initiation at Center.
YNC Chandler new CMC. Will be invited to Saturday September 11, 2004 Change of Command.
- Chief Kuttner mentioned MM1 Marcello from WPB.
- MCPON Directives update: No kangaroo court this year. Emphasis on learning. Big brother
concept. If we only have 2-3 people, it will be difficult to really teach teamwork. Must
teach them that what is said in our walls must stay in our walls. Cannot humiliate. No
food as a prop. Sponsor will present selectees with Charge Book. "Initiation" no
longer applies. Hazing will not be permitted. Discussion about staying within the
guidelines and meeting the needs of the slugs.
- Senior Chief Staff asked if 2 sea cadets could attend the 2-day CPO indoc. Discussion
that some of it might not be applicable. Suggestion that initiates go through the course
and then turn around and teach the Sea Cadets.
- September 16th is a Thursday this year. Dates for initiation September 17th
18th.
- Air Force is moving to a senior enlisted rank similar to ours.
- Will start process as soon as possible. Uniform khaki. Comment that promotions way down
this year.
Introduction of guests
- ITC Randy Mayweather from Fort Lauderdale. Retired from USS Kennedy. Started out as a
DP. Volunteers with Sea Cadets and Red Cross.
Minutes from the previous meeting: Motion to accept as amended. Duly seconded and
approved.
Treasurers Report/ Membership Report: Chief Herrera not present. Chief Powell
noted we still have outstanding race money owed to us. Current balances checking
$10,114.83 and savings $2,284.81.
Committee Reports
- Race Mark calendars for November 17th 21st.
- Scholarship
Chief Tedlow reported that no applications have been received.
- Philanthropy
Chief Tedlow read letter from the Armed Forces Service Center.
Chief Kuttner said his reserve center is sending packages of necessary items across the
pond (snacks, baby wipes, etc.) Community Service opportunity Saturday, June 19th,
0745-1230 in Davie. Need 12-15 volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.
- Ship Liaison
Senior Chief Starr reported that a NATO task force will be here
the end of June. On June 22nd , 3 German navy ships will arrive departing June
25th. They are FGS Bremen F207, FGS Brandenburg F215, and FGS Frankfort Am Main
A1412, a Berlin class tender. On June 24th, 2 British ships will arrive
departing June 29th. They are HMS Albion L14, the first in the new class of
Landing Platform Docks, and HMS Sutherland, F81.
Old Business
- 501(3)(c) Need to send filing fee to State. $70 plus $8.75 for certified copy.
Will email information to Chief Herrera.
New Business
- Chief Sturm sent message that 7 seebees in his unit have been killed.
- Chief Arnie Correia is working with Senior Chief Starr. Proposes that CPOA obtain a
motor whaleboat for Sea Cadets. They could use it to learn navigation, etc. This could be
a good project for us. Chief Short asked about liability insurance and obtaining one from
surplus. Senior Chief Staff noted that boat they have is not seaworthy. USCG Station Fort
Lauderdale would store the boat but have questions about ownership, insurance, and must
have a licensed captain. Motion to continue to investigate 36 motor whaleboat for
Sea Cadets. Chief Palfrey volunteered to be part of group to help with title. Chief
Correia will obtain more information. Duly seconded and passed.
- Senior Chief Starr moved to host reception for Chiefs from foreign navy ships visiting
end of June, not to exceed $500. Uniform for reception to be khaki. Duly seconded and
passed.
- Chief Neary read thank-you email from CMC Kelly Schneider on the USS Leyte Gulf for our
gift of caps. They will have a picture taken and send to us.
- Chief Neary had copy of Ask the Chief, Backbone of the United States Navy by
Leahy. This book was just published. Suggestion to consider giving books like this to the
various ships with a bookplate in lieu of the plaques.
- CWO4 Holzinger presented information about the benefit golf tournament to be held in
memory of Petty Officer Nathan Bruckenthal, the first Coast Guardsman from Dania to be
killed in combat since the Vietnam War. All proceeds from this event will go to his wife
and unborn child.
