Meeting called to order 1937. Pledge and moment of silence.
REMINDER: May meeting will be second Thursday of the month, May 12,
2005.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting. Motion to accept as mailed. Duly
seconded and approved.
Treasurers Report: Unavailable.
Committees
- Race Chief Short expressed thanks to everyone who participated. We had more
participation this race than ever before. We were very busy the last day. Upcoming race is
the Nascar in November. (Note: there may be night races at this event.) Chief Powell is
trying to secure rooms. Chief Short met with the manager of the Homestead Inn. Motion to
award a plaque to them thanking them for their support. Duly seconded and approved.
- Scholarship
Have received one application.
- Philanthropy
Chief Tedlow is still asking everyone to give him dates of
birthdays and anniversaries so that appropriate cards can be sent. We awarded a $250
donation to the Miami Airport Armed Forces Service Center.
- Ship Liaison
Senior Chief Starr noted Cutter Gannet change of command will be
May 27th. Fleet Week ships arriving April 25th. They include USS
Bataan LHD-5, USS Nashville LPD-13, USS Stout DDG-55, USS Laboon DDG-58, USS Thomas S.
Gates CG-51, USCGC Mohawk WMEC 913, HMS Endurance A-171, USS Toledo SSN-769, and Strike
Group 6. Our reception will be Tuesday April 26th. It will be basically the
same venue as last year with a block party. Senior Chief Starr is arranging tours. It was
noted that we have $1,200 budgeted for this event. The books have been received that we
are presenting to the ships at the official greeting on Monday as well as the CPOA
reception on Tuesday. All ships will receive a copy of Ask the Chief: Backbone of the
Navy on Monday. On Tuesday, the Navy Chiefs will receive a copy of The Last Stand
of the Tin Can Sailors: The Extraordinary World War II Story of the U.S. Navys
Finest Hour. The Coast Guard Cutter will receive Rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
Great Acts of heroism Since 1878. The British ship will receive To Rule the Waves:
How the British Navy Shaped the Modern World. Chief Neary reported that the
restaurants participating in our reception will give 3 free drinks to all chiefs and we
will only purchase food to be put out. This should reduce our costs somewhat. Parking
will be available in the lot just west of Café Blue Fish for $5. Senior Chief
Starr read the email he had sent to the Chiefs Mess of the arriving ships. Uniform
of the day for our reception is CPOA shirt.

Received the balance sheets and bank statements from the Treasurer
to submit to CPA. Have filed our 2005 Annual Report (certificate copy included).
- Initiation
New chair Chief Schuchman. We will not be hosting this event but
will be supporting it. Master Chief Robertson noted that we will support it but will not
take a leadership role. Chief Neary said that he did not schedule the VFW for anything.
Master Chief Fagenbaum said the Coast Guard initiation will be in May.
Old Business
- International CPOA meeting Will be in Kissimmee September 7th
11th. Question about name tags and business cards.
New Business
- USS Bainbridge commissioning November 12th.
- Senior Chief Bradleys (USCGC Gannet) change of command May 27th. We
will have at least six invitations for CPOA members.
- Lee Palfrey moving to Tallahassee
Has accepted new position. Leaves in July.
Will miss this group.
- Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale change of command
Tony Powell will
be taking command of a cutter. We will have at least six invitations for CPOA members.
June 9th at 1800 followed by barbeque. ANT (Aids to Navigation Team) change of
command June 10th.
- Party for membership
Will discuss at May meeting.
- Holiday Party
Current location has changed ownership. Chief Lesser will have
more information soon.
