- Race Chief Short reported that this was a rough race, especially the night
races. Gross sales $43,160.30 which at 11% will give us about $4,747 income. (Friday
$12,185, Saturday $13,338, Sunday $17,637 approximate breakdown by days.) Chief Short
embarrassed that we had to use so many outside people. Had 9 people on Sunday and
werent able to leave until after 10:30 p.m. Does not understand why people
cant plan to attend this. Has run his last race. Discouraged that people signed up
and were no shows. Have new challenges if we are going to do the March races. Need someone
to step up to the place by January 5th.

the messes of 19 ships: January was USS Leyte Gulf, April was Fleet Week (USS Bataan, USS
Nashville, USS Stout, USS LaBoone, USS Toledo, HMS Endurance), July was Teddy Roosevelt
Strike Group (USS Roosevelt, USS San Jacinto, USS Gettysburg, USS Donald Cook, USS Oscar
Austin, La F-101 ; lvaro de Baz< n), August was USS Antietem, September included
USS Bradley, USS Bainbridge (which was commissioned), USS Anzio, USS Elrod, and USS Sammy
B. Roberts. The commissioning of the Bainbridge was a highlight. Very emotional weekend.
Tuesday was the first reception for their mess. Had program from commissioning. Presented
mug to Chief Short. Hue City coming in January. WWII Mohawk (USCGC, 165) to be a
museum. Working to find a location to accommodate it. Being reconditioned. May be able to
have monthly meetings on board. They may be hiring a caretaker. Discussion. Senior Chief
Starr noted that our receptions support the various ships messes.
