Meeting called to order 1930. Pledge and moment of silence.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting. Chief Bagley was present at the last meeting.
Chief Powells mother passed, not his mother-in-law as noted in the minutes. Motion
to accept as corrected. Duly seconded and approved.
Treasurers Report: Savings total $2,126.89, checking $9,315.67, for total of
$11,442.56.
Committees
- Race Next race is March 4th, 5th, and 6th.
Reminder from Chief Short that we sign a contract with Americrown. If the races are rained
out on Sunday, we are obligated to provide people on Monday. Chief Short read the list of
names of those who have volunteered. Major Miranda is bringing 5 cadets to volunteer.
Motion to donate to their JROTC program $200. Discussion that this is community service
for them and we will send a letter to their principal. Chief Paul withdrew his motion.
- Scholarship
Waiting for new requests.
- Philanthropy
Received card from Master Chief Fagenbaums family for the
plant we sent. Chief Tedlow has ribbon pins to benefit Camp Fiesta for Children with
Cancer. Also, has address of gunners mate at Great Lakes to send encouraging
letters. Senior Chief Herrera selling candy for daughters band trip to the Magic
Kingdom.
- Ship Liaison
Senior Chief Starr noted Cutter Gannet change of command will be
May 27th. Fleet Week ships arriving April 25th. They include USS
Saipan LHA, USS Nashville LPD, USS Stout DDG, USS Laboon DDG, USS Thomas Gates CG, USS
Underwood FG, and attack sub and possible a USCG cutter. Our reception will be Tuesday
April 26th. It will be basically the same venue as last year with a block
party. Senior Chief Starr is arranging tours. It was noted that we have $1,200 budgeted
for this event. (Editors note: We received updated information March 12th
from Chief Easter that the ships will be USS Bataan LHD-5, USS Nashville LPD-13, USS Stout
DDG-55, USS Laboon DDG-58, USS Thomas S. Gates CG-51, USCGC Resolute, HMS Endurance, and
an attack sub.)
- 501(3)(c)
Received request from CPA handling application for additional
information because IRS has changed a few of the requirements. Secretary read required
dissolution clause: Upon the dissolution of this organization, assets shall be distributed
for exempt purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code,
or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. These remaining assets will be
distributed to local commands of the United States Navy and Coast Guard MWR (Morale,
Welfare, and Recreation) funds which are exempt under 501(c)(3) at the time our
dissolution takes place. Motion to accept and make part of bylaws. Duly seconded and
unanimously passed by those present. Secretary outlined need for Conflict of Interest
Policy. Motion to use the sample from the IRS. Duly seconded and passed.
- Initiation
New chair Chief Schuchman. We will not be hosting this event but
will be supporting it. Discussion. Senior Chief Schwarz is retiring this month. Question
about the props. We might be able to donate them to the Coast Guard.
Old Business
- Received a thank-you note from our scholarship recipient.
New Business
- International Chief Petty Officers Association Convention in Kissimmee
September 7th-11th. Chief Powell, Chief Tedlow, and Chief Paul will
attend.
- Support of Reserve Center
Senior Chief Starr noted Navy League partnership
with the Center. Motion to provide 4 plaques in conjunction with the Navy Leagues support
of the SOY and SOQ for SELRES and AD. Duly seconded. Discussion. This would be good to
mentor junior sailors. Might be new bridge to the Reserve Center. Marines dont
participate in SOY. Some concerns about previous communications. Important to show they
have support from us. Motion passed.
- Honorary Chief
Chief Lesser moved that Gayle Malone be made an Honorary Chief
Petty Officer with all attendant rights and privileges in this organization. Duly seconded
and passed.
- Fleet Week looking for E4 and E5 volunteers for Shore Patrol.
- Suggestions and items of interest from Chief Correia
MC Balcolm got married.
Next week is the waterway cleanup. Suggested we have a fishing trip with sea cadets and
CPOs. Recommend a bulletin board be maintained at the Reserve Center.
- Senior Chief Bradleys (USCGC Gannet) change of command May 27th.
