Meeting called to order 1930. Pledge and moment of silence.

Special Announcements: Chief Bowden is being activated and leaves for Iraq
September 18th.
Minutes from the Previous Meeting. Motion to accept as mailed. Duly seconded and
approved.
Treasurers Report: Savings $2,140.10, Checking $5,466.55. Motion to accept
the report. Duly seconded and approved.
Committees
- Race Chief Powell said situation with rooms is chaotic because of Katrina.
Recruiting command will have sailors at the races, Dale Ehrnhardt race team. Chief Short
said there will be night races in November, dates November 17th 20th.
Has not resolved issue of money pending. Chief Lippincott suggested finding a bus to carry
us to berthing.
- Scholarship
Vanessa Lippincott awarded scholarship.
- Philanthropy
Armed Forces Service Center last donation in December. Discussed
contribution for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
- Ship Liaison
USS Antietam reception at last meetings. Theodore Roosevelt
battle group, USS Iwo Jima and Bataan going to gulf area to assist with Katrina effort.
Discussed USS Bainbridge commissioning. Will be a massed colors of all Sea Cadets at
commissioning. Secretary sent names of all members to Navy League so we will be invited to
this. USS Leyte Gulf arrives in Fort Lauderdale the following week.

Chief Short is obtaining a copy of the contract we have with the
Races and Chief Herrera will send copy of most recent bank statement and balance sheet.
- Initiation
Thursday, September 15th for Hialeah initiation at
1600. Battle Stations that morning and breakfast for genuine chiefs. Friday, September 16th
at 1130 for pinning.
Old Business
New Business
- USS Bainbridge reception for chiefs mess November 8th. Motion to approve $600
for reception. Duly seconded and passed. Commissioning at noon on November 12th.
- USS Leyte Gulf arriving November 14th. Motion to approve $400 for reception
on November 16th. Duly seconded and passed.
- Wife of WO at USCG station Miami struck by lightening. Motion to approve $100 gift
certificate for family. Duly seconded and passed.
- Motion to approve donation of $1,000 for sea service victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Tabled pending research.
- Chief Edson, SEAL, has brochures for a fund raiser. Requesting consideration for
financial support.
- Master Chief Fagenbaum suggested possible involvement in a golf tournament and the Poker
run. Chief Viggiano will research Navy Week during Gasparella in Tampa.
- Senior Chief Starr reminded everyone of our normal Thanksgiving support for the Cutter
Gannet, Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale, the Aids to Navigatiion team, the Reserve
Center, and SouthCom. Motion to purchase $75 gift certificates for each (2 for Reserve
Center). Duly seconded and passed.
- Master Chief Fagenbaum said the South Florida Federal Executive Board 2nd
annual food drive will be next month. Everyone should bring non-perishable food to the
next meeting and he will collect.
- Chief Correia concerned about our not out reaching in the community. Would like to see
us be more visible. Wants bulletin board at NRC.
- Reminder that nominations for next years officers will begin next month. President
and Vice-president can only serve 2 consecutive terms.
- Reminder to mark calendars for Holiday Party.
