Meeting called to order 1940.  Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting.  Motion to accept March minutes as posted.    Duly seconded and approved.  Reminder - minutes of all meetings will be posted on our website (http://www.pes1.com/cpoa/). 

Treasurer’s Report:  Savings balance $2,86.61.  Checking balance $3608.88.  $1,000 outstanding bill due to CPA.  Motion to accept report.  Duly seconded and approved.

Committees:

• 501(c)(3) update – Gayle read letter from IRS.  Effective March 27, 2007:  “We are pleased to inform you that upon review of your application for tax exempt status we have determined that you are exempt from Federal Income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.”
• Race –  Chief Short reported next race November.  Was very discouraged that so many non-CPOA folks had to help us.
• Scholarship –  Chief Tedlow has received one application.
• Philanthropy –  Chief Powell reported have not heard from Ship’s Project.  Senior Chief Staff will send information on the veteran’s home which is seeking assistance.  From email received April 13^th:  Sent condolence card to HMC Thomas Kincer on the passing of his wife.  Has requested donation to American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.  Sent get well card to Chief Chandler who had surgery in April.
• Ship Liaison – Senior Chief Starr reported OSCS Chuck Black new president of  Fort Lauderdale Council of the Navy League.  Brought collection of coins from ships for everyone to view and had information and gifts from the decommissioning of the Kennedy.  Gave special CPO coin to Chief Short.  Master Chief DeNunzio promoting our Fleet Week reception to area Coast Guard Chiefs.  Has barbeque planned April 27^th, initiation May 11^th at ISC with dinner that evening at Tropical Acres.  See below for additional notes on Fleet Week plans at Coral Ridge Yacht Club from Gayle’s notes.

• Motion to purchase plaque to recognize staff at Homestead Inn for their assistance.  Duly seconded and passed.
• Established committee to determine suitable recognition for Coral Ridge Yacht Club donors:  Tim Neary, Mike Short, Jerry Lippincott, Norm Powell, Gayle Malone, Chuck Robertson, Pat Bowden.
• Motion to design “working” t-shirt and then order.  Duly seconded and passed.

Fleet Week:  Preparations for Chief Petty Officers Reception

Meeting notes from 4/12/07, 1500.

Ed Rumin turned over $12,550 to BND Joe Milsap who will give us check to be used for expenses. We will be responsible for wait staff overtime and tips, band, and miscellaneous expenses.  Food is free. Working with Mark Winkler on t-shirt design to give away in gift bags. Has door prizes lined up including 2 cruises.  One on the Patriot for 10 people, one on Gotcha Covered for 6 people.  Working on gift bags for everyone.

Expected ships and guests:  Los Angeles Class Fast Attack Submarine USS Memphis (SSN 691),  USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98), USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44), US Kearsarge (LHD 3), USS Ponce (LPD 15), USS San Jacinto (CG 56), Coast Guard cutter USCGC Gannett.  Official schedule of activities shows Chief Petty Officers’ Reception at CRYC, 1900-2200.  Carrier Strike Group Two NOSC, SouthCom.

Special guest:  Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, Skip Bowen

TO DO:

• Music – unknown if Navy Band available.  Will plan on country band as backup.
• PA system – Tim will borrow Station Miami’s.
• Press coverage – Gayle will contact for TV/newspaper coverage of event.
• Tickets for free drinks – Gayle will bring roll of tickets.  CRYC will supply greeters and sales for additional drink tickets.
• MWR sales of ship’s items – this is OK if ships want to bring items to sell to attendees and yacht club members.  Will discuss with Alan Starr.
• Gifts for donors – discussed at April CPOA meeting.  Committee has been formed.
• Plaque presentation from CPOA – will discuss with CPOA membership and Mike Short.
• Gift exchange from ships
• 33-foot from Station Fort Lauderdale – contact Chief Daigle.
• Other Coast Guard assets and attendance in honor of special guest – contact Master Chief  John DeNunzio
• Need Coast Guard and Navy Flag as well as someone familiar with protocol to post.
• Joe Milsap will arrange for photographer.
• Parking – should be sufficient parking since Tuesday typically slow evening
• Ed arranging for dock space for Coast Guard assets.
