Treasurer’s Report: Savings balance $7,250.56;
checking $215.61. Deposit for Holiday Party $200. Motion to accept treasurer’s
report. Duly seconded and approved. Reminder that dues should be paid for
2008, $20 for members, $10 for associates.
Committee Reports:
- Race Committee – Chief Short felt things went
very well with the November race. Chief Powell said there were some issues
with the room reservations. Chief Neary noted that reservations should be
computerized within the year. Chief Lippincott prepared a written
after-action report: HOMESTEAD - NOVEMBER
2007. Because some people had not
submitted their identifying information to Chief Short or Chief Lippincott,
we submitted a “Credentials List” containing names from previous years –
persons who would not actually be working. We understand some people just
don’t know if they can make it until the last minute or are just reluctant
to make a commitment, but if we don’t have a good number of names, then we
don’t get an assignment that makes it worth our while. Getting the people
parked at the right place, then inside the track and into the infield was a
major obstacle. We were directed to park to the Southeast of the track but
it just wasn’t feasible vice the Northeast worker parking. It would have
required dedicating persons at each entry point (Gate 11, to the north side
and at the tram stop on the south)! I decided to direct everyone to the
Concessions gate (#11 on the North side) and may have lost a person or two
due to the change and frustration. As it was, 69 person-days were worked as
a contribution to the CPO mess! We had 36 nights used at the Homestead TML
@ $33 per. Six of these nights are in question – (more later). The track
was open for business on Wednesday the 14th, and we were selling foods and
drink until the last whistle blew on Sunday evening, the 18th. On Friday
was an evening race so that was a damn long day… We were assigned two
separate food service locations (however right next to each other) – The
Paddock Café also had a small tent 20’ away where we sold mixed drinks and
import beers. There was a 50’ trailer parked nearby from which we sold 20#
bags of ice for $10 each. If we needed to use ice from it for ourselves,
for inventory control we were to retain the small metal rings that closed
the plastic ice bags. (That was a $1,500 item !) For the Paddock we were
issued a “bank” of $3,000 each morning (5 x 3,000 = $15,000) and $2,000 for
the Pizza tent each day on the last three days. In total we turned in
$100,768.00 (Subtract the issued $21,000 bank) for net sales of
$79,678.00. If after accounting and inventory checks are done and
reconciled, and if I didn’t make any major mistakes – we should have earned
almost $8,000 for the organization (minus lodging). Suggestion to
discuss further at the January meeting.
- Scholarship – NTR
- Philanthropy – Chief Powell reported no
activity. Chief Short will research veteran’s retirement home needs.
- Ship Liaison and Navy League – Senior Chief
Starr reported successful visit with Leyte Gulf Chiefs’ Mess at the Wayward
Sailor. Only 2 of their chiefs were unable to attend. This was their first
opportunity since coming out of the yard to be together as a mess. This was
the 20th anniversary of their commissioning here in Fort
Lauderdale. CMC very grateful and gave us signed picture. Expect another
ship around January 20th. Captain Karl L. Schultz sent a note
thanking us for the Thanksgiving certificates:
Please extend/accept my gratitude on behalf of the Sector Miami Team for the
Navy CPO Association’s generosity!
- Initiation – NTR
