Meeting called to order 1930. Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting: Motion to accept
minutes as posted. Duly seconded and approved. Reminder – minutes of all
meetings will be posted on our website,

Treasurer’s Report: Chief Lippincott submitted report: savings balance
$5,296.51; checking balance $10,003.77 with an outstanding check of $307. He
ordered more coins. Motion to accept report. Duly seconded and
approved. Reminder that the holiday dinner at the Elks Club will be $30 per
person. Menu will include mixed green salad, chicken Marsalla, tilapia in
butter sauce, or brisket, chef’s vegetable choice and garlic roasted potatoes,
coffee, tea, rolls with butter, and carrot sheet cake. Well drinks will be at
member price $3.50. Need to contact Chief Lippincott to make reservations for
dinner as soon as possible.
Committee Reports:
Race Committee – Chief Short reminded about November races. Chief Powell spoke about rooms. Should have fair to adequate coverage. Southcom providing security. | |
Scholarship – NTR | |
Philanthropy – Chief Powell reported he may have 2 projects: Fisher House and VA information from Master Chief Fagenbaum. Will bring report to next meeting. Continuing to send $500 each quarter to the Armed Forces Service Center. | |
Ship Liaison and Navy League – Senior Chief Starr reported that previous year’s we purchased Thanksgiving gift certificates from Publix, $75 each, for sailors on Cutter Gannett, Station Fort Lauderdale, the Aids to Navigation Team, Coast Guard Air Station Opalocka, and 2 for the NOSC (one active and one reserve). Reception for USS Philadelphia went very well. USS Kauffman FFG 59 arriving for Veteran’s Day. Would like to hold reception for them on Wednesday, November 12th, 1900-2200 at Wayward Sailor. USS Cole will be here for Pearl Harbor Day. | |

Old Business:
· Second call for nominations for officers for 2009: Nominations are Robin Viggiano for President, Rick Tedlow for Vice-president, Jerry Lippincott for Treasurer, and Gayle Malone for Secretary.

Wine tasting event similar to last year’s to recognize donors
from Coral Ridge Yacht Club. Tentatively scheduled at 7th Street
Wine Company for last Saturday in January.
New Business:
Motion to fund reception for USS Kauffman not to exceed $400. Duly seconded and passed. | |
Motion to purchase $75 Publix gift certificates for deserving sailors for Thanksgiving. Duly seconded and passed. | |
Chief Short found used motorized wheelchair/scooter. Motion to pay $150 for new batteries and donate to veterans home or deserving veteran. Duly seconded and passed. | |
Motion to recognize Pat Hughes with letter of appreciation and certificate. Duly seconded and passed. |
Good of the Order:
· New VA clinic beautiful and well built.
· Fleet Week meeting Saturday, November 8th.
· Safe Harbor Program. Senior Chief Larson reported receiving news and changes from advocacy support to non-medical case management support. Have increased the mission. Will keep association informed.
· Wish for happy Veterans Day.
