October 2008 Meeting Minutes

Thursday, October 2, 2008 

Meeting called to order 1930.  Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting:  Motion to accept minutes as posted.  Duly seconded and approved.  Reminder – minutes of all meetings will be posted on our website, http://www.pes1.com/cpoa/. 

Treasurer’s Report:  Chief Lippincott submitted report:  savings balance $5,293.15; checking balance $10,828.45.  Motion to accept report.  Duly seconded and approved.  The holiday dinner at the Elks Club will be $30 per person.  Menu will include mixed green salad, chicken marcella, tilapia in butter sauce, or brisket, chef’s vegetable choice and garlic roasted potatoes, coffee, tea, rolls with butter, and carrot sheet cake.  Well drinks will be at member price $3.50.  Motion to donate $200 to VFW for allowing us to user their facilities.  Duly seconded and approved. 

Committee Reports:

bulletRace Committee – Chief Short reminded everyone to gear up for November races.  Chief Powell spoke about rooms.  Need all personal information by November 1st.  Will only need about 4 people on Thursday, 6 on Friday.  Need minimum 30 people for Saturday and Sunday.  To get room, should work 2 days but will get room if work Sunday.

bulletShip Liaison and Navy League – Senior Chief Starr reported on reception for USS Philadelphia to be held at Wayward Sailor Pub, Monday, October 6th at 1900.
bulletInitiation – Eleven initiated September 19th.

bulletMotion to fund reception for USS Philadelphia not to exceed $400.  Duly seconded and passed.
bulletFirst call for nominations for officers for 2009:  Nominations are Robin Viggiano for President, Rick Tedlow for Vice-president, Jerry Lippincott for Treasurer, and Gayle Malone for Secretary.  Second call for nominations will be next month.
bulletMotion to host wine tasting event similar to last year’s to recognize donors from Coral Ridge Yacht Club.  Duly seconded and passed.  Secretary will research and bring back information to next meeting.  Suggestion also made to purchase ensigns to fly from USS Chief to present to high donors.  Will also consider invitations to holiday dinner.

Good of the Order:

·        Had to change meeting location for this meeting due to scheduling conflict at VFW.  Special thanks to Senior Chief Starr for opening Sea Cadet building.

·        Need to consider gifts for folks who have helped us this year.  For example Kelly and Vicki at VFW and Pat from Bell South.

Motion to Adjourn 2036.  Duly seconded and unanimously approved.
