Meeting called to order 1930. Pledge of Allegiance
and Moment of Silence.

Minutes from the Previous Meeting: Motion to accept
minutes as posted. Duly seconded and unanimously approved. Reminder – minutes
of all meetings will be posted on our website,
http://www.pes1.com/cpoa/.
Treasurer’s Report: Chief Lippincott reported
checking $10,375.57, savings $1,002.25, money market 10,020.08. Motion to
accept treasurer’s report. Duly seconded and unanimously approved.
Committee Reports:
- Race Committee – Chief Powell noted Grand Prix
March 5-6 at Homestead; will check on rooms. Need people to take online
TIPs course which is good for 3 years.
- Scholarship – NTR.
- Philanthropy – Investigating Paws for Patriots
program. Received letter from Armed Forces Service Center at Miami; may
open one at Fort Lauderdale airport.
- Ship Liaison and Navy League – Expected ships
for Fleet week at this time: USS Wasp (LHD 1), LA class sub, Canadian
frigate, USCG cutter, and another frigate.
- Initiation – NTR
- Fleet Week Reception – Had first meeting at
CRYC February 3rd at 1330. Present: Ed Rumin, Ken Brown, Dave
Cohen, Harvey Cohen, Arthur Drago, Ron Roy, Gayle Malone, Tim Neary. The
reception will be held Tuesday, April 27th beginning 1900. In the event of
rain, there is an upstairs area sufficient for the reception. Will meet
with Barbara Priestman when she returns from Costa Rica to discuss better
way to draw for yacht rides and door prizes. Need to better recognize yacht
owners who donate rides. Ed will work with chef to plan buffet. As in past
years, will also work with purveyors for food and refreshments. Ed and Ken
will select wait staff for event. Hope to have Joe Cantu to again provide
DJ. Karaoke and Air Guitar contest big hit. Gayle has
contacted Dave Campbell with Police Pipe & Drum Corps. Will also contact
South Florida Video. Chief Drago has contact at Sun-Sentinel. Hopes to
have increased publicity for event. Ed needs $300 for initial postage and
printing. Gayle will get check as well as 2009 videos to his office.
Anyone else needing videos or pictures from last year should contact Gayle.
Suggestion to do ships gift exchange similar to Official Ships Greeting.
Committee will discuss with Alan. Still want to do service songs as in the
past. Chief Drago will contact Sector 7 for possible USCG
boat. Committee will contact Master Chief Rusty Pedersen for flyover. Need
posters for the event as soon as possible. Also, Committee needs to order
T-shirts. Air & Sea show will precede Fleet Week this year. Joe Millsaps
has invited MCPON, former MCPONs, and Master Chief Petty Officer of the
Coast Guard Skip Bowen (who is retiring in May). Suggestion to have last
year’s video on large screen TV for viewing during event. Will Sea Cadets
do Colors? Who will be keynote speaker? Will we have Macy’s bags for
gifts? Next meeting at Port Everglades for planning event February 23rd.
Will also be a planning meeting at Joe Millsaps’ office date TBA. Next
scheduled meetings: March 3rd, 1330 at Coral Ridge Yacht Club; March 31st,
1330 at Coral Ridge Yacht Club.
Old Business:

Dues. Must be paid no later than March or price increases.

Rusty Pedersen retires June 11th.

Air & Sea Show April 24th – 25th.
New Business:
- Motion to compensate anyone taking the alcohol
course. Duly seconded and passed.
- Salute to the Military 5k/10k Run February 7th
at 8 a.m. 405 Biltmore Way, Coral Gables, FL. Free parking.
Registration fee day of race Civilian $35, military $30; add $5 for 10K.
- Motion to contribute $500 to MWR fund of both
Comfort and Bataan for their relief efforts in Haiti. Duly seconded and
unanimously approved.
- Chief Short discussed $2000 cook trailer. Will
research further insurance and permitting costs.
- Motion to purchase plaque for Homestead Inn about
$50. Duly seconded and unanimously approved.
- Motion to put website on public domain about $30
per year. Duly seconded and unanimously approved.
Good of the Order
- Will invite someone from Navy JROTC to speak to us.
- Possible philanthropic endeavor for survivors of
Iwo Jima. Will give information to Chief Powell.
- Chief Drago spoke about meetings at NOSC and twice
yearly cookouts. Quarterly meetings at NOSC would not be in lieu of
regular meetings. Motion to have twice yearly meetings with burger burn on
Fridays with local commands. Duly seconded and unanimously approved.
- Waterway cleanup reminder.
- Senior Chief Starr’s grandson in the hospital.
Motion to Adjourn 2028. Duly seconded and
unanimously approved.
