Committees:
· Ship Liaison – The head of the fleet week is Strike Group 2. The ships scheduled to come are the USS Phantom, USS Cole, USS Farragut and USN Virginia. We have not received any responses from the CMCs except from the USS Farragut and they also sent 20 coins. Anyone who donates $500.00 or more will receive a challenge coin from a ship. There are currently 31 donors that will receive a coin.
· Fleet Week. Arrival of the ships will be on Monday morning and VIP dinner with the COs and XOs at 1800. Reception will be held on Tuesday at 1800 and the uniform will be Khakis with combination cover or South Florida Polo’s. Please sign up and represent your command! Senior Chief Roy will bring some guests, he made a donation. Please do not make it a habit! *Do not crash the chow line, it is only for the crew of the ships* There will be a damage control competition on Tuesday afternoon by the crew of the ships, Chiefs that are on duty on Tuesday are encouraged to attend the cruise on Wednesday night and will be on Summer Whites. There will be an after hour tour with the cadets. If you which to attend and bring kids, the age is from 8 years and up and muster will be with Senior Chief Starr at 1800 in the parking lot. Boarding time will be at 1830! Thursday night the SOY will be hosted by Fort Lauderdale Navy Counsel League at the hotel and the uniform will be Summer/Jumper Whites as required. The reception is covered for the SOY, spouse and LCPO or CMC. The CNO may be visiting on Friday and the reception is by invitation only. A Chief from a ship can sponsor up to 5 people but needs to be in writing, do not try to get on any ship without being sponsored.
· CPO365 – The next quarterly training will be held on May 13th at the NOSC Miami. We will start with PT at 0730 followed by training from 0900 to 1600. NOSC Miami and NOSC WPB are in it together and offer an invitation to SOUTHCOM and NRD Miami.
· Awards – We have plenty of shirts! Plaques will be ordered for the ships and the guest speaker.
· Social Committee – Great bowling event last Sunday! The next one will be on May 28th. Key West is scheduled from April 29th to May 1st. The fishing trip will be in July. The cruise is planned to be from October 28th to the 31st by Royal Caribbean.
The prices for 2 people, 4 days and 3 nights all included are as follow:
Inside Cabin $740.00
Outside Cabin $922.00
Suite $1833.00
Deposits are $500.00 a cabin and due by May 4th. The rest will be due 90 days after that. Group rates will expire soon, so we need to move fast! The Captain of the ship will meet us one night for dinner and the plan is to be on Summer Whites. We all need to make our reservations individually.
Old Business: NTR
New Business:
· Chief Sweeny would like to have a South Florida Navy Ball! He is inviting all the commands and would like South Florida CPOA to sponsor it. An email will be sent soon to ask for committee positions and will start looking for possible places. The plan is to have it by the Navy’s birthdate but we know that the Khaki ball and the Halloween cruise will be around the same time. We also need to find the drill dates.
· Senior Chief Roy asks to get more details to decide how much money will be donated.
· Senior Chief Roy makes motion to present the 3 jackets at the action committee meeting and for $200.00 or less instead of doing it at the Fleet Week. Duly seconded and approved!
Good of the Order:
· Senior Starr mentioned that we had the opportunity to meet James, the former CMC of the USS Cole. He spoke to us about the day of the attack and gave us great lessons. We presented him with the original poster of the commissioning of the ship signed by the original Captain.
· Master Chief Robertson said that it was great to hear that some of the things we teach new Chiefs during Phase II, he had to go through. When James arrived to the USS Cole, the CPO Mess was broken apart and he had to bring it together. He also had to stand up for his Sailors against the CO and made many more difficult decisions during those times.
· Chief Drago ask us to pray for his wife’s mother which has been diagnosed with cancer.
Motion to adjourn: 2046. Duly seconded and passed.
