 Meeting called to order by Master Chief Chuck Robertson: 1930.  

Pledge of Allegiance, Sailor’s Creed and Moment of Silence.  

Reminder it is Pearl Harbor Day  (September 17th, 2018)

Minutes from the Previous Meeting.  Motion to accept minutes as posted.  Duly seconded and approved.  

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Senior Chief Roy reported the following:

 

Outstanding Checks: check# 1002 for $200.00 and check#1003 for $500.00

 

Checking Account balance: 11,624.43

 

Savings Account:  $3,187.94

 

Money Market Account:  $51,116.01

 

Grand Total: $65,928.38

 

Duly seconded and approved.  Note that dues are payable now.

 

 

Committees:

 

Race : Chief Short reminded all, the NASCAR race is quickly approaching and we are still in need for volunteers, specially for Thursday and Friday. At this point 11 personnel have signed to volunteer for Thursday, 20 for Friday, 30 on Saturday and 29 for Sunday. Invite all hands, family and friends and remember they must be over 18 years of age.  Anyone volunteering for two nights will have the hotel rooms paid for. Signing up and all paperwork will take place a month prior and information will be posted on the website. For all E6 and below Sailors who volunteer EVAL bullets will be provided for their performance evaluations. Scholarship: Chief Tedlow announced received two letters of appreciation from Arthur Drago Jr. and Meghan Hall, expressing their gratitude for being awarded the scholarship and the impact it will have on their educational goals. Please remind applicants all paperwork must be completed and submitted by June 30th

 

Philanthropy: Chief Powell announced a thank you note was received from Martin Heckler a WWII Veteran.

 

Sea Service Veterans Assistance:

 

Ship Liaison:  Senior Chief Alan Starr reminded the CPOA of the upcoming 9/11 and asked everyone to remain engaged and continue to highlight the significance of these events. Senior Chief stated that the attacks on Pearl Harbor were the battle cry for our Parents and Grandparents and 9/11 should be the battle cry for newer generations. It is on us to ensure we continue that legacy.

Senior Chief Starr also announced the USS Paul Ignatious DDG 117 will be home ported in Fort Lauderdale on July 19th 2019. On a different, Senior Chief notified that despite controversy with the passing of US Senator John McCain, he did not hesitate to lower the flag to half-staff in honor of our fallen hero.

As far as Fleet Week 2019, no big Navy ships are expected to come. However, the Coast Guard is still looking to contribute.

 

 

Sailor 360: Chief Season issues brought the absence of a POD and lack of e-mail replies from Chief Selects. It is important to remind Selects to reply to Genuine and maintain a line of communication and professionalism.

Master Chief Robertson encouraged the CPOA members, especially those who have not being to Blanding to make an effort to go. It is common for the retirees to have very little participation and Master Chief once again, is urging the CPOA members to muster the energy to participate in this important event.

The pinning ceremony is scheduled for Friday September 14th at 1100 in SOUTHCOM. Final night will be held in Camp Elmore on Thursday September 13th. The cost for Final night will be $30.00 and will include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The beach run is scheduled for Sunday September 9th at 0600.

The Khaki Ball will take place at the Trump Hotel in El Doral. The prices for the Khaki Ball are $65.00 per person and includes a coin.

1. Holliday dinner party will take place on Tropical Acres on December 8th at 1800. The price will be $25.00 per person and the uniform will be summer whites.

2. September 18th Mai Kai Restaurant located at 3599 North Federal Highway Fort Lauderdale, FL 954-563-3277. The cost will be Cost: $47.00 per person and includes appetizer, entrée, dessert and show.

 

3. October 14th at 1400 Costume Bowling: Costumes are required to win a prize Prizes and will be awarded to one boy and one girl (child) CPOA individual, CPOA couple or any first class eligible going up for Chief on the next cycle. Location will be at Wilton Manor Lanes 1517 NE 26th Street. Fort Lauderdale. The price is $10.00 for guest and free for CPOA members.

 

4. Family picnic location and time is tentative and further details will be announced.

New Business: Master Chief LaCoursiere requested a motion for $300.00 to aid Ms. Debbie Fink. She is an avid volunteer and the money will cover her travel expenses from Jacksonville in order to help us during the NASCAR race.

Senior Chief Rosenberg set a motion for $1000.00 to help a Sailor transferring from the Reserves to Active duty. Unfortunately, the Sailor has not received active duty pay for a month and half. The money request is to help the Sailor recuperate form the financial burden caused by the pay mishap. Motion set and passed.

Chief Monica Soto announced Sgt McKenzie expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the CPOA.

Chief Monica Soto also requested $500.00 to aid a Marine facing hardship after being involved in a car accident. Chief Soto set a motion and passed.

Chief Tedlow set a motion for $100.00 to purchase Halloween process for the upcoming bowling game. Motion passed.
